SWAMPDAWAMP Swampdawamp
Big Penny Entertainment (2007)

Swampdawamp

New Southern Rock band, debut album that's worth checking out if you're a southern rock fan.

Opener 'I'm Feeling Saturday' nods at Lynyrd Skynyrd, with touches of Nazareth and Guns'n'Roses. 'Sometimes' is slower, with a searing guitar sound amongst the ballad vocals.

Usual big band sound, so on 'Birthday' you get acoustic strumming with electric slide working well, the organ providing background chords; nothing intricate but it fills out the sound well.

'Blind Crippled And Crazy' has a touch of country, a very American sound. Less AOR than the modern Skynyrd, not quite as bluesy as Molly Hatchet, a good middle ground that will suit fans of every camp.

***½
