SAILOR Treasure Trove - Anthology 1975 - 2005 2-CD, Angel Air (2007)
Many may remember the 1975 number 1 hit 'A Glass Of Champagne', well there's that and a whole lot more to Sailor; a band who dressed as sailors on stage!
There's a strong influence of both pub rock and glam rock - the aforementioned hit could easily be a mix of Steve Harley and Mott The Hoople.
This well annotated compilation mixes greatest hits and some great tracks with demos, tracks the band recorded which later appeared on solo albums, you get the idea.
There are some decent melodies here, if a little light on substance; 'Chained To The Wheel' is a great song but at the folk, whimsical or singer/songwriter end of pub rock, Think Olivia Newton-John.
Many a hit and miss and just as many tunes. Compiled by the band too.
As good an introduction as it is an essential piece of history for the fan.
