RIVERSIDE Rapid Eye Movement SPV (2007)
Following 'Out Of Myself' and 'Second Life Syndrome', 'Rapid Eye Movement' completes a trilogy concept, and is typically intricate progressive metal.
Opener 'Beyond The Eyelids', a complex number and a slight ambient feel in the instrumental passages, nods at Dream Theatre and Porcupine Tree.
'Rainbow Box' has some decent riffs and a good melody, and the odd bursts of heavy complex rhythm nod at alternative metal, but the extra (melodic) dimension with the keyboards.
Some of the lighter tracks, 'Schizophrenic Prayer', are more trippy; imagine any Vince Clarke pop band meets U2 and playing melodic prog. Good range on the vocals too.
'Through The Other Side' is more dreamy, with acoustic edges, and although pleasant it doesn't fit in so well.
One for prog fans for sure, pretty good overall.
