J K NORTHRUP Wired In My Skin Alien Records (2007)

Northrup plays pretty much all the guitars and bass and odd synth here, with guest drums, vocals and other bits, for a decent rock/metal album. The songs are strong melodic rock but the guitar sound is more extreme, making for a unique sound and enjoyable too.

Opener 'Black Moon' is an instrumental with a good riff, and the title track features several changes of pace and strong vocals from Johnny Edwards. Solid verses and AOR Catchy chorus, while the guitar remains upfront and heavy. The synths back up the guitar well.

From metal to AOR, you get some good melodies. 'The Road' is guitar pop at the extreme end, think theme tune to Friends only heavier.

Some good stuff, just a little too different and not consistent enough to be great.
