JETHRO TULL The Best of Acoustic Jethro Tull EMI (2007)
This compilation, put together by Ian Anderson and presented in chronological order, covers acoustic numbers recorded by this legendary prog group.
On top of Anderson's flute, you also get piano, violin, harpsichord, accordion, mandolins and many other instruments to give you a range of sounds, and some decent melodies and picking too, not the tuneless strumming you associate with acoustic work.
Anderson's vocals and songs are equally distinctive. Tracks include 'Fat Man', 'Life Is A Long Song', 'Cheap Day Return' and 'Mother Goose'; 22 tracks in all which are all top notch Tull. 'Thick As A Brick' will please many.
A couple of recent live tracks ('One Brown Mouse' and 'Pastime With Good Company') added, with sleevenotes from Anderson, make for a damn fine release, showing the band's lighter edge.
