GIRLSCHOOL The Singles 2-CD Lemon CDLEMDD101 (2007)
Amongst the plethora of compilations, we at last get one that's worth
checking out.
Although the band are still going and producing some of their best material,
Girlschool's last single was 1988 and they've not been in their deserved
limelight since. This takes in every single and every b-side, including
album and non album tracks and the odd live outing.
For an all-girl band to not only survive the NWoBHM, but also to produce
some genuinely classic high energy and catchy metal is quite a feat. Over
two discs we kick off with 'Take It All Away' and take in 'Hit And Run',
'Race With The Devil', 'Don't Call It Love', and the take on 'I'm The Leader
Of The Gang' featuring Glitter himself. Through rough metal of 'Please Don't
Touch' (a top 5 hit with Motorhead) to glam 'Burning In The Heat', an old
Slade song, there are some fine moments.
Some fine sleevenotes take in each release; a complete package indeed.
