FLOWER KINGS The Sum Of No Evil SPV (2007)
This is how modern prog should be; expansive and timeless. The band based around the talents of Roine Stolt, producer, vocalist, guitarist and songwriter. And by his own admission, they've taken away the pop and the jazz, this is pure prog.
There are elements of Genesis circa Lamb Lies Down On Broadway, a touch of King Crimson and Camel, maybe Marillion too, but the biggest influence has to be Yes. Think Yessongs but done so you wouldn't know when it was recorded; could be any time over the last 35 years with modern production and a big sound.
Opener 'One More Time' is one of the more Yes numbers. 'Love Is The Only Answer' runs to nearly 25 minutes and takes in many feelings. From AOR to metal and touches of Eloy in between.
'Trading My Soul' (one of only 2 songs under 10 minutes) is soulful in a bland way, very much a modern Marillion feel.
Yes it's pure prog, and thoroughly enjoyable too.
