TERRY BOZZIO ‘Prime Cuts’ Magna Carta MAX1001-2 (2004)

Bozzio is a renowned jazz/rock drummer who’s worked with Jeff Beck (Guitar Workshop) and many others. This compilation looks over some of his previous work on Magna Carta and a couple of previously unreleased numbers too.

Opener 'Sick Jazz Surgery' is a 10 minute drum epic that thankfully avoids the anal jazz fusion, and is thoroughly enjoyable. 'Dangerous' is much heavier, with a touch of Zeppelin, and was recorded with Tony Levin.

Tracks that follow feature some funk and hard rock. Tony Levin, Billy Sheehan, Steve Howe and Dream Theatre’s vocalist James Labrie all make appearances.

While individual albums may be too much for some, this set (which includes an enhanced video playable on a compute) is strong, sound and excellent throughout.
