STEVE HOWE Homebrew 3 SPV 48632CD(2005)

Guitarist extraordinaire Steve Howe has made his name with Yes, Asia, GTR and as a solo artist. The 3rd CD in this series shows how his song writing and recording processes develop, so while it is aimed at purists and collectors, it still contains some excellent music. Turbulence kicks off and not too different to the finished article, but this is a home recording that wasn’t remastered. Other tracks come from old 8 tracks or minidisk, and while some were released in later or rerecorded versions, others weren’t, and provided ideas for later songs.

The Main Title is very atmospheric, and in places ambient.

Because many are demos, the songs are built up with programming, so there’s quite polished sound to the whole album.

Each track is annotated by Howe, and those with vocals have the lyrics too.

Enjoyable and interesting, but of limited appeal.
