STAMPEDE QUEEN ‘A Night At The Cockfights’ Perris PER01432 (2004)

From the same label as Empire, this is a more raunch’n’roll outing. Think touches of Black Crows and Dogs D’Amour, touches of AC/DC and perhaps G’n’R. Even Junkyard.

Opener 'Never Turn Your Back on Rock’n’Roll' describes the set perfectly. It’s all slightly derivative but the gravelly whiskey soaked vocals suit it all down to the ground.

There’s a rough sound to the music all the way through, with a glam touched sing along attitude too.

The guitar intro to ‘Mister Saturday Night’ is SO AC/DC, but this is hard rock’n’roll, not the tongue in cheek mockery of The Darkness.

In Yer Face. Beginning to end. Another class set.

***½

***** Out of this world | **** Pretty damn fine |
*** OK, approach with caution unless you are a fan |
** Instant bargain bin fodder | * Ugly. Just ugly
