ROSE TATTOO The Best Of Repertoire REPUK1043 (73:58) (2005)
Another full and worthwhile compilation, if you don’t know about Rose Tattoo, then you should. Rock’n’roll, heavy slide guitar, boogie, and Australian exports, they came from the shadow of AC/DC with their heads held high. And quite rightly too, for in the early 80s Rose Tattoo produced some of the finest rock’n’roll with a punk attitude.
The street sound to the music reflected the way the band had been brought up, and the shaven headed Angry Anderson was a top frontman, and Pete Wells’ slide guitar was equally legendary.
One Of The Boys, Rock’n’Roll Outlaw, Assault And Battery, all top head bangers. Even the later material of Southern Stars, when the band were waning, is worth checking.
If the recent excellent full album reissues on Captain Oi! are too much for the passing rock fan, then this compilation will more than suffice. Nothing special, no rarities, just 20 of the best.
