The former Cars frontman apparently recorded this new album quite quickly, and that's noticeable because it’s stripped down compared to previous releases. Nothing wrong with keeping things simple (recorded in his home basement), as it allows the songwriting to come through.
The opening track features some nice strumming and a decent riff, and the technical sound on other tracks works well as it’s not overdone.
Bad Brains bassist Darryl Jenifer guests, as does Cars pianist Greg Hawkes.
With both acoustic and crunchy grungy electric guitar, it all flows pretty naturally; shame about the drum machine though.
