RHAPSODY SWEDEN ‘Strange Vibrations’ SPV CD085-59962(2004)

Formed in Sweden in 1974, this mid 70s album gets a re-release through MT Classix with 2 new tracks added as a bonus.

Chunky trad rock with a metal edge, and the keyboards layered under the guitar nicely.

'Crazy Dance' and 'Belly Dancer' are gentler, piano led with some searing guitar over the top (think of Ritchie Blackmore’s Snowman).

Overall it’s a very strong rock/metal album which is hard to fault, but there’s just something special missing, which means it’s not as gripping or essential as it could or should be. Still, worth a listen.

***½

*** OK, approach with caution unless you are a fan |
** Instant bargain bin fodder | * Ugly. Just ugly
