RAISING FEAR Avalon Dragonheart (2006)

Raising Fear

Raising Fear are an Italian band, and Avalon is their second album, and while the press release says they're power metal, the first few tracks of this concept album hint at melodic progressive speed metal. Thing Rhapsody turned thrash.

There's some neat guitar work outside (and within) the high speed work, the vocals are a touch operatic, and there's more to the rhythms than machine gun drums.

Opener "Voices" features some Gregorian choir, while "A Glance At Destiny" is an acoustic number.

By mid album it's more trad metal at the power end with a brutal touch.

The title track runs at over 13 minutes, and gives those old Yes guitar runs a real twin guitar metal touch. Now that's prog metal for you.

Jag Panzer guitarist Chris Broderick guests too.

Quite extreme as prog metal goes, but good with it.
