MOUNTAIN Nantucket Sleighride
Repertoire RES2322

When it comes to classic rock albums, they don’t get much better than this. And despite many reissues, the Repertoire treatment does the package justice.

Taking the Vanilla Fudge sound in a heavier direction, Mountain owed a lot to Cream and could be seen as the US answer to the UK power trio.

Playing a festival style blues rock, a lengthy workout was not uncommon in the live situation, and the heavy sound is thoroughly enjoyable.

Led by vocalist and guitar wizard Leslie West, this was Mountain’s second album, issued in 1971. The title track is well known, or should be to any fan of the era.

In places the piano fills the sound well, giving a full range sonic assault and occasional southern edge, but it’s that solid rock sound (a la Cream) that does most of the grabbing.

This digipak comes with a decent band history and three extra tracks - the live version of Roll Over Beethoven is a real head banger and a great listen.

An essential part of a hard rock record collection; trust me.
