MARCO RIZZO Colossal Myopia Mascot M7167-2 (2005)
Another musician’s musician CD from Mascot, in this case a young virtuoso guitarist, a shredder’s shredder.
Opener “Kilocylce” blasts into a frenzy, thrash in places, and is well structured; changes of tempo keep the listener occupied. The Jazz moments a little out of place though. Touches of Maiden in the arrangements a welcome touch, only with the guitar played a million times faster.
“Introspection Of An Introvert” continues in the same vein. Some excellent guitar work, but it would be nice to see a little more riffing; a song shouldn’t be entirely a guitar solo.
“Remember The Future” is more acoustic, the guitar nodding at Spanish, while the title track kicks off brutally heavy with bursts of acoustic flamenco.
An album for guitarists, but good all the same. Some vocals, riffs and progressive arrangements would break it up more, but still very enjoyable.
