Better known as Ariel Bender, guitarist Grosvenor has a history covering Spooky Tooth, Mott The Hoople and Widowmaker. This is his first solo album from 1971, and it’s a bit of a deviation.
There are moments of the funky rock he was playing at the time, but they have their wanderings, both soulful and jazzy. Some acoustic moments add some nice touches, and you get to see how talented and versatile he was.
‘When I Met You’ is a stand out, and the riff on ‘Rocket’ is worth checking out, but in places it’s a little inconsistent and disjointed. Still, with some useful sleevenotes and a couple of rare single B-sides it’s a decent package.
