HEAVY PETTIN Pettology Majestic Rock MAJCDBOX9 (48:13) (47:40) (58:16) (2006)
Although Majestic have already issued Pettin's first two albums, this 4 disc set takes in them both, complete with extra tracks, a live concert from London 1984 and a DVD of the same concert.
The band's 1983 debut, Lettin' Loose, is a bright hard rock effort with a commercial edge, somewhat akin to Def Leppard, with heavy AOR and Thin Lizzy influences.
In And Out Of Love kicked off proceedings and set the scene well; under the polish there are some great melodies and guitar solos, a hard rock sound well worth checking out and bolstered by production from Queen's Brian May.
1985's Rock Ain't Dead continued in a similar vein, with heavy polished riffs, vocal harmonies and high pitched lead vocals.
The live set, which will interest fans, shows how tight and dynamic the band were on stage, and covers tracks from both albums. They were a popular live draw at the time, and you can see why here. Sadly it's rather quietly recorded, but serves a purpose.
Could be better value for fans who already have the remasters of the first two albums; the inclusion of the ill fated third album or the US remixes would have made for a more complete set but the music's top class anyway.
