GRAHAM PARKER 'The Official Art Vandelay Tapes Volume 2'
Lemon CDLEM64 (2005)

From the depths of the pub rock scene in the mid 70s we got a new-wave angry young singer/songwriter. Parker has produced some fine pop/rock over the years, and so have many rarities.

Much bootlegged, this second 'beat the bootleggers' compilation features some alternate versions, live tracks and rare single/12' versions.

Mixing guitar and keyboards and the occasional touch of reggae, it’s hardly rock’n’roll but pretty enjoyable if easy going.

The cover of 'I Want You Back' is suitable soulful, and some of the tracks are a touch funky too. But it’s nothing really startling.

Given that this could save you a lot of money (bootlegs of this stuff go for £100+, although I can’t see why), it’s really for die-hard fans only.

**½
