GODHEAD Evolver Reality Entertainment RYE101 (2006)
American quartet Godhead have been going since the early 90s, and this 2003 album (rather soon for a reissue isn’t it?) fuses indie-guitar pop with a harder Nu edge.
The band cite Dave Gilmore and Metallica as influences, which may well be but there’s nothing spectacular here.
'Just Like You' typifies the set, with plenty of twin guitar noise and a programmed sound without actually being metal or, for that matter, anything else.
Adding programming to twin guitar, bass and drums just detracts from the sound, adds the wrong sound, and clutters things. Yes it’s a full range sonic assault but no little end.
Even the lighter tracks are too artificial sounding.
Nothing wrong with the ingredients but all here together in one big melting pot there’s something about it that is just incorrect. Non metal guitar noise for the sake of it.
