GINGER ‘A Break In The Weather’Sanctuary CMEDD1057 (2005)

The man Ginger is famed for his tenure with the Quireboys and briefly The Throbs before forming the Wildhearts. Out and out hard rock with both glam and rock’n’roll leanings.

The band triumphed with much critical acclaim and nearly burnt out in the process before taking a career break in 1997/8.

Ginger went solo, and release several singles via mail order. The original intention was 12 singles in 12 months, but we have here is a complete singles collection of what was achieved. 18 tracks, 2 discs and sleevenotes by both Ginger and Jerry Ewing.

There’s an element of the Wildhearts, 80s sleaze and lyrics written from the heart.

'Cars and Vaginas' features a very T-Rex / Marc Bolan sound which keeps a good rhythm. And there’s an element of Samson’s ‘Telephone’ in 'You Me & BT'.

This is a thoroughly enjoyable and complete set from beginning to end. Thankfully the Wildhearts are back at it but if you want to explore that career break this is pretty essential listening.
