THE FLOWER KINGS Paradox Hotel Inside Out SPV48872DCD (2006)
The Flower Kings are a prolific prog rock/pop band who push the boundaries, and often feature complex arrangements a la Yes or King Crimson. There's even a track here ('Unorthodox Dancing Lesson') in 13/8 time.
At the other end of the spectrum, several tracks are melodic pop/rock with an off the wall leaning. In between you get some well crafted rock songs, pop songs, progressive noodling and everything else. The songs that are piano led make for easy listening, especially 'Jealousy' with its soft vocals.
From eclectic and the Zappa-esque to the TV Dinners equivalent of rock/pop, it'll keep fans happy but isn't the most gripping of music; and at 18 songs over two discs rather a lot to stomach too.
