ERIKA ‘In The Arms Of A Stranger’ MTM/SPV 085-64112(2004)

Once voted Sweden’s worst dressed woman, romantic links with James Hetfield and ex-wife of Yngwie Malmsteen; they haven’t stopped Erika releasing several rock albums that have done very well in their native Sweden.

This second set, from 1991, is good, solid yet standard fare, with a commercial edge. It’s fairly typical of what Alice Cooper was doing in the late 80s; it’s a very enjoyable listen and almost chart-worthy, if not the most spectacular music around.

Of course there’s the ridiculous European angle on lyrics; 'Rock Me Into Heaven' for example, but Erika’s voice handles the ballads and rockers well. There’s some excellent guitar work, that’s sadly often over produced. If you like the commercial end that’s not too AOR then it’s still well worth checking out.
