ENUFF Z NUFF ‘Favorites’ TB Records TBCD0106 (2003)
Enuff Z Nuff have been one of the few bands to stick to their guns
(pop rock gems a la Cheap Trick and the Beatles) during the grunge
infested 90's. They have produced a string of great albums and for
once this is a collection that covers all their history, from the big
label days of the debut album and 'Strength', right up until last
year's 'Songs From The Blue Horizon'. The two mainstays have been
vocalist Donnie Vie (who has recently left) and bass player/vocalist
Chip Z Nuff, around whom a revolving door of guitarists and drummers
have come and gone.
Enuff Z Nuff excel in short, sharp pop rockers with a bittersweet
lyric like 'Freak' and 'There Goes My Heart'. They also produce some
wonderful acoustic moments such as 'My Heroin'. During their career
the band have had some top name guests including guitarists Billy Corgan
(ex-Smashing Pumpkins), Rick Nielsen (Cheap Trick) and James Young
(Styx), who all appear on tracks on this compilation. Personal
favorate on here? Tough call with so much quality but I'll go for the
Cheap Trick cover 'Everything Works If You Let' and 'New Thing',
classic examples of pop rock with a catchy riff and big chorus.
Superb collection and well worth investigating if you have never
sampled the band before.
