ENUFF Z NUFF ‘Welcome to the Blue Island’ Perris Records (2003)
The album got a UK release via TB Records and Perris have picked it up
for US release. Possibly the final album to feature vocalist Donnie Vie, who
has since put out a rather fine solo album. It’s what you’d expect from
Enuff Z Nuff - bittersweet lyrics wrapped in gloriously catchy tunes. They
have yet to release a real stinker of an album (bar maybe the live album)
and they keep the standards up on here.
Highlights? Opener ‘Saturday’ highlights everything great about the band,
from the pop rock riff to the dark edged lyrics coupled with big hook filled
choruses. Johnny Monaco also rips up a storm on guitar, a worthy addition to
the ranks. Plenty of ballads as well like ‘Falling In Love Again’, where
piano and guitar blend well. ‘Man Without A Heart’ has more harmony vocals
than a Journey record!
Hopefully Donnie Vie will still be involved in some capacity, even just
songwriting wise. The band’s next album will be a crucial one in their
career that’s for sure.
