DRAGONLORD Black Wings Of Destiny Escapimusic EMUS20037 (2005)

Speed metal with a gothic / dark touch; more than verging on black metal, and formed by Testament guitarist Eric Peterson.

Interesting opening before machine-gun drums lead a full on sonic assault, the growling vocals and high speed guitar reminiscent of Glen Benton’s Deicide. But a sound remarkably (suspiciously?) like a keyboard adds a maturity and an extra dimension.

“Revelations” is more melodic, but still infinitely too heavy to be called melodic rock.

The growling vocals almost grindcore, but the music half decent.

Later, “Until The End” move away from the black metal sound, a touch of the European melodic speed metal, still with the growling vocals.

Definitely for the heavier metal fans. Good though. As is the cover of Thin Lizzy’s Emerald.

**½
