DANIEL PALMQVIST Lion Music LMC177 (2006)

Debut album from guitarist Palmqvist, and largely a pleasure too.

I often find totally instrumental albums difficult to plough through, but he does mix the pace well, with riffs, solos, and some acoustic, and varying speeds. Several songs have atmospheric intros, and there's a clear influence from both Lukather (an underrated genius) and Malmsteen.

The music is well produced, and there's quite a bit of overlaying.

'Carte Blanche' is one of the heavier faster numbers and does break up proceedings well, as it was getting a little monotonous before then. Some fantastic work on it though, you can almost hear the guitar having a conversation.

Won't set the world light but a guitarist to look out for.
