CLUTCH ‘Blast Tyrant’ DRT Entertainment RTE410(2004)

This metal set is a bit of mixture, mixing a bit of trad with a lot of nu-punk noise. Rough vocals and crunchy guitars, there’s elements of rap-metal, funk, noise, Led Zeppelin, Frank Zappa, etc.

It’s inventive, with occasional blasts of catchy riffs, but also elements of a boy band trying to rock out. Unique and assertive, yet cheap too. It really is a mixture that is very hard to pin down, and the disjointed element and nu-sound do make for difficult to listen to and enjoy. Not inherently bad, it does have its moment, but this really isn’t my thing.

Nicely packaged in a digipak with lots of indie drawings in the booklet.

**½

*** OK, approach with caution unless you are a fan |
