CALIFORNIA GUITAR TRIO `CG3 + 2' (Inside Out) 2002 (advance - out 30 Sep)
This band are made-up of guitarists Bert Lams, Hideyo Moriya and
Paul Richards. All have worked previously with Robert Fripp (King
Crimson). Joining them on this album are Tony Levin and drummer Pat
Mastelotto, both of whom have been previously been in King Crimson.
The Latino flavoured `Melrose Avenue' gets things underway, with
some lovely acoustic guitar. Yes' `Heart of the Sunrise' gets a run
out in a very different arrangement, but it works very well in this
instrumental style. The instrumentation on this CD is first rate -
check out 'Dance of Maya' or 'Blockhead'. There is even some blues
based music on 'Swampy Space' and 'Swampy Returns'.
A great instrumental album , covering many bases - jazz,
acoustic, rock, blues and Latin amongst others. A good CD to unwind
to or as driving music. I would imagine in a live context these tunes
would take on a whole new life.
