BILL WYMAN'S RHYTHM KINGS Live In Berlin
R&M RAMVD0016 (2005)

The former Rolling Stone continues to have a lot of fun (or at least it sounds it here) with his big band playing r’n’b, if occasionally at the MOR end. Still, if you like your rock’n’roll at the easy end, this is top stuff.

Kicking off with a band intro, “I Got A Woman” is an up tempo R'n'B number with a soft mix. With Wyman’s soft sounding bass well up, it’s a full sound, before you add the horns. “Jump Jive And Wail” is late 50s rock’n’roll.

With nods towards soul, rockabilly and blues, it’s a fun set. Covers of tracks by Lonnie Donnegan, Ray Charles ,Beatles, Chuck Berry and Motown, it’s a good mix.

Yes it is at the MOR end, which will please the middle aged market more, but with that in mind it’s still well worth exploring.

***½
