EPHEL DUATH has never been one to take the traditional approach to creating music and their latest effort takes this outlook even further. THROUGH MY DOG'S EYES is based on a bizarre concept conjured up by guitarist and founding member DAVIDE TISO, in which the entire album is written from the perspective of a dog. TISO explains: "I wrote a few short stories and it was really fun for me to imagine myself as a dog and to imagine the world from a dog's perspective. The challenge was to translate the words into lyrics." From opening track 'Gift', which TISO describes as being about "A cat that the dog kills for the owner as a gift, and he asks the owner if he is happy with the present", to the thought-provoking 'Promenade', a song about a walk in the park which takes a twist when the owner questions himself as to why he's not as carefree and happy with life as his dog is, the barking mad brilliance runs throughout the course of the whole album. "Every song is a window into the dog's mind or an event," TISO continues, "The album touches on a lot of things, both deep and sometimes silly." It's not only the lyrics in THROUGH MY DOG'S EYES which are written from the dog's perspective - rather the entire album, including the music, is based around this unique and previously unexplored concept. "The music in this case is the soundtrack of the thoughts of the dog - at times you can hear the dog running," TISO elaborates. EPHEL DUATH's musical mastery shows itself through their wide scope of work and their ability to experiment with sounds and concepts. Having worked with both international drumming sensation MARCO MINNEMANN (PAUL GILBERT, NECROPHAGIST) as well as BEN WEINMAN of DILLINGER ESCAPE PLAN on THROUGH MY DOG'S EYES, TISO notes the change in direction: "Ephel Duath was previously a complex machine of moods. This time it's not full of different perspectives, just one solid direction." Having released two albums on infamous extreme music label Earache, the band have also ventured further afield, taking their particular brand of punk attitude to audiences across Britain and into Europe. Their career so far has afforded them a wider perspective on how Liverpool is viewed, both from within and without the city. Commenting on the city's current status as the 'European Capital of Culture', bass guitarist Mark Magill explains: "I was made up when Liverpool got European Capital of Culture '08, but it sometimes seems like a missed opportunity. Culture in Liverpool is thriving in spite of, not because, of the council. It is difficult for artists and musicians to get anything done here. There is lack of venues for bands to play in and a fly posting vendetta that completley misses the point of being a cultural mecca. Liverpool brands itself on being capital of music, but should be ashamed of the way it deals with grass roots creative talent. This is the same place that shut down The Cavern AND Erics. Say no more." And responding to an article in 'The Scotsman' which suggested that Northerners might fare better if they left their roots and moved to the South, Magill counters: "Policy Exchange are completely mental. To suggest all us poor Northerners up sticks and move to Oxford and Cambridge is an idea that only something called a Think Tank could come up with. It doesn't take into account that not everyone has aspirations to be upper middle class like them, and I'd rather kill myself than live in their reality. Nothing good will ever come out of their money and petty status driven existence." Views like this, based on a pride in and an exasperation with their home town that informs much of the brand new SSS release, cryptically titled THE DIVIDING LINE. 'Cherry Island' deals with a local shopping centre, while 'Street Leech' is based around the blatant drug problem in the area. After tearing it up in every corner of Europe, the bands are now home and have had some time to recover and to look back at their recent journey. GAMA BOMB frontman PHILLY BYRNE comments on the tour: "We've finally reached the end of our European tour with Bonded By Blood and Sworn Amongst, which took in 34 shows in 11 countries, 40,000 miles on the clock in a tourbus with 18 people aboard, chugging through something like 180 litres of diesel over the course of five weeks and five days. Along the way there were torn ligaments, damaged vocal chords, a suspected broken ass bone, about 12 cases of the common cold, a few outbreaks of alcohol poisoning and more bruises, cuts, scrapes and mysterious injuries than we care to count. "We played in two haunted clubs, complete with a ghost that didn't want us to use the shower, a former Greek restaurant with murals of the Parthenon, a biker-controlled backstreet bar, a black metal meeting house, a classic car workshop, a converted slaughterhouse, dockside pubs, a couple of youth clubs, drug dens, sh*t holes and palaces too. We're not clear on how many guitar strings we used, but it pales in comparison to the amount of beers we drank. Also, we have no idea how many people we played to, but it was excellent all the same, as we're starting to meet people who wear our shirts to the show. Nice." I: The Debauchery part: "WAR" will contain 6 songs of uttermost brutality, blast beat, double bass etc. It will feature Tomasz Janiezewski, (ex-Belphegor) on drums and the new songs will push him to his limits. 280 bpm or more blast beat and the like. II: The Blood God part: "ROCKERS" will contain 5 Hard Rock songs in the vein of AC/DC, Krokus and Guns'N'Roses. No blast beat, no double bass, just pure rock and groove. British grind metalheads BURNING SKIES are forced to cancel all upcoming shows and tours at least until the end of the year. BURNING SKIES singer Merv was attacked on Friday just gone. Whilst on the floor he had his leg twisted 180 degrees and repeatedly stamped on. The doctors said he nearly lost his leg and he could take 6 months to recover. December 5, 2003 marked the final Deviate show in the Ancienne Belgique in Brussels, Belgium. After 12 years, numerous tours, seven studio albums and one live-CD, recorded in 1999 in Japan, the band members called it quits. It had been a great ride, but all good things must come to and end. Fast forward to July 2008. Two of the five Deviate band members announce a one off 'reunion' show, set for January 17, 2009. Laurens Kusters: 'Having been one of the 3 original band members, I was left in the dark about the 'reunion' show, let alone was invited to join the band for the one off show. Still, I am the official owner of one third of the 'intellectual rights' of Deviate. Jo and Christian, who both joined the band at a later stage, but completed the most important line-up of Deviate, were not contacted either'. Deviate members Danny & Kirby, who initiated the reunion show, were requested to consult Laurens to ensure the line-up would consist of the 5 principal band members that made up the core of the band. Sadly enough it seems they decided to ignore the advice. Hence we now have no other option then to take legal action. Kusters: 'It's a fact that in the past few years, we've considered the possibility of a reunion show. Jo, Christian and I agreed that this could only be possible if all 5 band members participated. Deviate fans expect and deserve to see the original line-up, not a cover band version of the real band.' 'We truly regret the recent developments, and apologize to our fans, who were looking forward to a reunion', add Jo, Christian and Laurens. We hope this will put a stop to the rumors, and that a real Deviate reunion is not totally out of the picture, although given the circumstances, a compromise/agreement between all band members will need to be in place first. *** DEADLOCK finish video shoot/ confirm record release show! DEADLOCK have just finished the video shoot for the song "The Brave/ Agony Applause", taken from their upcoming album "Manifesto", together with director Philipp Hirsch (Heaven Shall Burn, Amon Amarth, Disillusion). "The cooperation with Lupus Lounge fills us with pride," the band's bass player and creative mastermind Alboin says about the contract on five albums. "Not only are we now on a label that does excellent work and shows immaculate taste, but we are also in the company of some of the genre's most expressive bands." This December, the band will enter Studio E to record their third album "Galeere", scheduled for release in spring 2009. Autumn 2009 will also see re-mastered re-releases of their first two records, "Patina" and "Kainsmal". *** SECRETS OF THE MOON: First news on "Privilegivm" | New guitarist SECRETS OF THE MOON's fourth studio album will be entitled "Privilegivm". The band is currently working on its compositions and will enter the studio in early 2009. To present their DVD "Nachtreisen" (engl.: "Nocturnal Journeys") and as a herald of their forthcoming studio album "Flammentriebe" (engl.: "The Urge of the Flame") Dornenreich will debut songs of this album and they will play numerous songs of their 13-year-history on this much longed for tour with the following line-up: Eviga - voice, electric guitar Inve - violin Gilvan - drums   Dornenreich's friends Agalloch will join this special journey, which will be the only European Tour for Agalloch and their unique Cascadian Dark Metal in 2009. It all started in 2003, David Ellefson had worked with the singer, Dale Steele, as he produced some demo tracks for a band Dale was in in Minnesota. David was also working with a group in AZ that included guitar player Steve Conley and drummer Dave Small. They all stayed in touch and in early 2003 Dave Small asked David if he wanted to come over and do some jamming with him and Steve. They did and within a couple of days they had already written almost half a dozen songs. They demoed them up, sent those to Dale in Minneapolis, he sang on them, sent them back and they just sounded amazing. So Dale moved down to Phoenix, where they continued to write; then they realized they needed to bring in another guitar player, and Steve knew John Davis. Within about three or four months time, F5 was formed. They started sending the music out to record companies and initially JVC in Japan was the first record company to come on board. They continued to write almost 30 songs and went in the studio in the spring (March or April) 2004, to record the album with producer Ryan Greene and Steve Smith as the executive producer. By early July the sessions were completed, they played a few concerts in Arizona and in California after that, the response was really good. The CD "A Drug For All Seasons" came out on JVC in Japan/Asia in July 2005. In August 2005 it was released on Mascot in Europe and finally in North America / US on September 13th 2005. F5 toured the summer of 2006 across the US supporting their debut recording "A Drug For All Seasons". On March 25, 2006 the video for "Dissidence" was on MTV's Headbanger's Ball worldwide. Their DVD "Live For All Seasons" came out November 20th 2006 with footage of them live from the road and some behind the scenes with the guys. October 3 2007 F5 announced they were heading into the studio to start production on their sophomore CD with producer Ryan Greene (who produced their debut CD). The band called in bassist David Ellefson's longtime rhythm section cohort Jimmy DeGrasso to play drums on the recordings which follows the recent departure of original F5 drummer Dave Small. "The Reckoning" will be released through Silverwolf / SPV in Europe and Japan January 23rd 2009. *** SUSPERIA SET FOR CANARIAS HARD AND HEAVY MEETING OSLO, NORWAY- Norwegian thrashers SUSPERIA have issued further details of their previously announced appearance at this years Canarias Hard and Heavy Meeting which takes place at Maspalomas, Gran Canaria in the Canary Isles on 5th and 6th December 2008. The band have been confirmed as headliners on Saturday 6th December 2008. Other acts set to appear at the event include Vicious Art, Infektor and Esclavitud. Canarias Hard and Heavy Meeting is organised by Helvette Magazine and Scream Magazine, both from Norway. It was originally aimed at Scandinavian metal fans as a get-away from their notoriously dark days of winter. However the opportunity to have a metal filed sunshine winter break has been gaining interest from further afield. As a result the magazine is organising vacations to the event, from various countries between 3rd to 10th December. Further information is available at this location. SUSPERIA are currently working on the follow up to their 2007 release 'Cut From Stone'. The band have been working continuously throughout the year and pre-production is now nearing completion on approximately ten songs. Commenting on the work to date, SUSPERIA recently stated that "Our writing sessions have had a good vibe going on, with input coming from all of us. We've disciplined ourselves more this time round and we're happy with the way it's going. It's a mix of hard and fast songs with some nice touches of melody " A tentative release is scheduled for early 2009. SUSPERIA released their fourth studio album, "Cut from Stone", in 2007 through the TABU label in Europe and Candlelight Records in the USA. It entered the Norwegian chart at position No.18 and was the No.1 most added album on the influential CMJ Loud Rock and FMQB radio charts in the U.S.A. 'Cut From Stone' was recorded at Strand Studio, Oslo, Norway during 2006. The mix was completed by Daniel Bergstrand (In Flames, Meshuggah, Soilwork) at Dug Out Studios in Uppsala, Sweden, with the production handled by SUSPERIA and Marius Strand.
