JAMES CHRISTIAN
James Christian is
the singer with House of Lords who under the tutelage of Kiss' Gene Simmons
released two well-received albums (1988-90) and a third in 1992 before the
inevitable split.
They regrouped
several years later and recorded 'The Power And the Myth' but without original
keyboard player Greg Giuffria.
Christian has
appeared on several solo and session projects including 2007's 'Voices Of Rock'.
What are you
currently up to?
Right now we are
getting ready for our tour which starts on March 19th in Germany, Italy,
Austria, Switzerland, Netherlands, UK, Spain and a few more to come
Could you take us through the excellent new album 'Come To My Kingdom'
The process, for
this CD was very much similar to "World Upside Down. We start with a groove or
feel and work it till we fell we have something strong enough to continue with a
melody.
If we are not all
loving it, we would move on and write another. The lyric process is pretty much
the same way.
Our themes for the
CD are from experiences of us in the Band, wether it be love, Broken Love,
Dreams, or question of faith.
What sort of set list can fans expect on the upcoming European tour?
Songs from each CD
from past to present, we don't want anyone walking away feeling they did not
hear a balanced mix of songs.
How come Gregg Giuffria is not involved in the new album? Will he be involved
at all when you tour?
No. Gregg' s
involvement on the last CD was minimal because of his new business interests. I
don't for-see him joining us in the future. We have moved on and so has he.
Any plans for another solo album in the near future? You have also guested on
other artists albums - any artist you would love to work with in an ideal world?
I don't know about
any solo stuff just yet, although I would like to do it in the near future.
Right now I am concentrating on Keep the good name of "House Of Lords" in the
public eye once again. I love working with my wife Robin Beck.
How do you view the internet and downloads? How has the internet helped get
your music out there?
Yes the internet
has been a big help and for some it has hurt, But look, this is an area where I
do not have enough knowledge to really comment. I think the internet is helping
to gain access to new fans for sure.
What have been the live highlights with House Of Lords?
Just being out on
tour recently and looking out at the audience and seeing new and older fans
getting into the music.
I have always felt
that HOL music is timeless and that the newer listeners will come on board as
soon as they get a chance to hear it.
Keep in mind that
goes for all bands who make good records. newer listeners are dying to hear this
kind of stuff, They have just been force-fed a lot of crap in the part 10 -15
years.
Do you think House Of Lords would have had the initial success they did had
Gene Simmons not been involved via his record label? Also any plans to
re-release your earlier albums which are very hard to get hold of at present.
Well let's say
that having Gene Simmons certainly did not hurt. Anytime you have big name
recognition, it will help. This applies in any business. "You want that
promotion? Best to know someone at the top. But in the end one powerful man
cannot sustain the band unless there is substance. No re-releases in the near
future.
What do you like doing with your spare time outside of music?
I love raising my
daughter and working on my computer, I guess I'm pretty boring.
Message for your fans...
As always, I have
to thank the fans for sticking with me all these years. I love making new music
and I appreciate that there is an audience that listens and I want them to know
that I listen them also, so If they ever have any comments, they can write to me
in my guest book at
www.jameschristianmusic.com
I would love to
hear from you.
