ELVIS COSTELLO, Liverpool Empire, 13 May 2012
Declan
McManus a.k.a Elvis Costello has brought his American style 'spin the
big wheel' show to his hometown tonight.
Elvis starts
his show with a dancing girl in a cage writhing to every chord he plays,
then he starts to ask the members of the audience to get up and join him
on stage and gets them to spin the wheel which looms on the right side
of the stage, and whatever song it stops on, he and his band play.
All the hits
were played tonight from the brilliant 'Accidents Will Happen', to the
classic 'Watching the Detectives' and the superb 'Every Day I Write The
Book'.
The songs
came thick and fast, 'Radio Radio', 'Oliver's Army' and 'I Don't Want To
Go To Chelsea'.
Even The
Beatles 'Please Please Me' was on the wheel, Elvis played two of my all
time favourites 'Alison' and 'Shipbuilding' which had the crowd
screaming for more
They had
come expecting to hear all the hits and that is what they got, and as
the gig came to a close half the crowd seemed to be on the stage dancing like
something on an old Top of the Pops show.
