STATUS QUO Live At Montreux 2009 Eagle (2011)
Previously available as part of the DVD release, this is the first time the audio CD has been issued stand alone and showcases the time the Pictures tour rolled into the classic festival.
Do this band ever stop working? It seems not, and this set coincides with yet another tour.
Opening with 'Caroline' (who didn’t see that coming?) it kicks off tight, sweaty and fast paced. Experimenting a little more, the keyboards are higher in the arrangement here. 'The Wanderer' keeps the boogie going (OK in a more modern form).
Lesser known tracks like 'Rain', 'Don’t Drive My Car' and 'Softer Ride' sit nicely next to 'Mean Girl', 'Pictures Of Matchstick Men' and 'Roll Over Lay Dow'. More than a greatest hits, this is a career spanner and the band in energetic form, boogie, blues and pop. The enthusiastic crowd make it sound like a stadium show. The band close with 'Down Down', 'Whatever You Want' and 'Rockin’ All Over The World', it’s a good show and one you’ll enjoy if you don’t have it already. Marks off for the booklet where the sleevenotes seem to cut off mid-sentence.
