STATUS QUO Under The Influence earMUSIC (2011)
Originally released in 1999, this was Status Quo's 23rd studio album and, while the band may have been little off the radar and less reliant on the cliché boogie, it is widely regarded by fans in the know. Here it is reissued, remastered and nicely packaged with 3 bonus tracks.
Opener Twenty Wild Horses is a solid rocker with a nod to boogie, while the title track is a ballsy uptempo r'n'b with intricate guitar lines you wouldn't expect from this band. A good harmonica solo too.
Round And Round is another upbeat melodic rock'n'roll number and some blistering guitar work too.
'Shine On' is a little gloomier, which adds a good feel to the album, breaks up the pace too, as does the mid paced yet acoustically driven Little White Lies. Keep 'Em Coming adds a mean and dirty boogie sound.
A good range of songs, some good songwriting, and Rossi and Parfitt on form. An album that shouldn't be overlooked.
