KEVIN COSTNER & MODERN WEST From Where I Stand earMUSIC (2011)
Following in the footsteps of Russell Crowe, Hugh Laurie, Steve Martin, Johnny Depp et al, Kevin Costner becomes the latest actor to turn his hand at being a musician. This is actually his third album with his band Modern West, the previous two albums had decent sales in the US country charts and in Germany.
Vocally he is not bad at all, certainly streets ahead of fellow actor Russell Crowe! Musically it is AOR meets country, from the Tom Petty approved 'Where Do We Go From Here' through the catchy rock 'n' roll of 'Cleo At The Wheel'. Not unlike bands like .38 Special in their later AOR tinged years, the songs on here are made for the Midwest AOR radio stations.
The attention span can wander a bit on the slower numbers but overall this is a very enjoyable album. If his acting ever dries up, highly unlikely I know, he would have a good career in music.
