GREG X Dream www.gregxmusic.com (2011)
Not every day you get a CD to review with a handwritten postcard with it, which shows how much the album means to the artist in question. As if that wasn't enough to tweak my interest, then the guests' guitarist Greg X has assembled to help him on this release certainly did.
He has none other than Ken Tamplin on vocals joined by John Payne (Asia) who produced a few songs and fellow John Payne's Asia band member, drummer Jay Schellen.
Greg X has been working on this album for around sixteen years and it is certainly worth it. For those who like catchy melodic rock look no further plus you have Ken Tamplin on vocals - check out his closing vocal prowess on 'Dream The Dream', superb stuff.
Greg X lays down some tasty solos as well, never over egging a song though and he comes into his own on the closing instrumental 'Victory'. He said he wanted this to sound like an epic film soundtrack number and it does, and then some. For some seriously heavy guitar and vocals look no further than 'As The World Spins 'Round', a song that recalls Ken Tamplin's mighty 'Wake The Nations' album.
A strong set of melodic rock tunes, topped off with Ken Tamplin's vocals and planty of chances to show off your air guitar prowess, makes for a 'must have' album. Go grab you copy now!
