GMT Raw - Live Retrowrek Records (2011)
Robin Guy, Bernie Torme and John McCoy know how to make a racket, they know how to mix rock'n'roll, punk and heavy metal with aplomb. They do well, then they kick your ass and do it all again.
For those who don't know, guitarist Torme (Irish punk metal legend with a nod of Hendrix) and bassist McCoy (he of huge presence, beard and shaven head) played together in the legendary Gillan Band, while drummer Robin (an old school friend of mine) has thumped his way through Rachel Stamp, The Business and Bruce Dickinson.
After the intro, the band kick into 'Cannonball', which describes the way the song hits you perfectly, while 'Perfumed Garden' is given the 10 minute jam treatment; a perfect vehicle for Torme's blistering guitar.
Having seen this band several times I can testify just what a powerhouse Robin Guy is, and he works so well with John McCoy, it's all solid rock'n'roll.
Another GMT classic 'You Can't Beat Rock'n'Roll' goes down well, as do live renditions of Hendrix's 'Fire' and Gillan's 'No Easy Way'.
Add some humour into the mix and you get some great entertainment. The only mark down for this album is the sound quality, which at times is slightly bootleggy, which detracts from a great performance and some classic rock'n'roll.
