DOOGIE WHITE As Yet Unitled Metal Mind Productions (2011)
Amazingly this is Doogie White's first solo album, although he is a busy man having had previous stints in Ritchie Blackmore's Rainbow, Yngwie Malmsteen and Cornerstone (who are sadly now on indefinite hiatus) plus he has recently hooked-up with the reunited Tank.
He has roped in some stellar guests as you'd expect, including fellow Malmsteen band member drummer Patrick Johansson plus Pontus Norgen (Hammerfall) produces the album and Paul Logue (Eden's Curse) co-writes on four songs and plays bass on these.
The band starts in fine style with a fantastic Tony Carey (Rainbow/Planet P) 70's Rainbow-syled intro, before kicking into a classic hard rock. Joining Doogie White on vocals is Patti Russo, famous for her singing with Meat Loaf.
What a superb way to kick off the album and it carries on with 'Time Machine', a song with a distinct AC/DC feel as does 'Catz Got Yer Tongue'. The song also features some gorgeous 'la la' vocal harmonies.
'Secret Jesus' is another cracking hard rocker - Neil Murray pops up as guest on this one. 'Times Like These' is worth a special mention for Derek Sherinian's keyboard fills.
Any of the songs on here will please fans of Rainbow's 'Stranger In Us All' album, the recent Tank album or his work with Cornerstone. A great hard rock vocalist produces a great hard rock album what more can you ask for?
