BIG COUNTRY Fields Of Fire: The Ultimate Collection Mercury Records (2011)
Nicely timed for the band's current set of tour dates this two CD compilation covers all eras of the band. For the fans there is a previously unreleased version of 'Fields Of Fire' recorded for the BBC but this compilation is most probably aimed squarely at the casual fans. Also there are sleeve notes from 'Classic Rock' magazine's Jerry Ewing giving a potted history of the band.
Of course their big anthems are all presenet including 'Fields Of Fire', 'Wonderland', 'In A Big Country', 'Chance' and 'Look Away' but this compilation includes a few lesser known gems for the casual fan to discover and enjoy.
There is the folk tinged 'Beautiful People', 'Mary' and 'The Seer' which features Kate Bush.
With thirty five songs in total this compilation is a good cross section of the band's music and a perfect palce to start for new/casual fans who may only know the big 80's hits. Good to see the band are back out touring again, with the Alarm's Mike Peters replacing the late Stuart Adamson, helping keep the music of Big Country alive.
