KIM RICHEY Wreck Your Wheels (2010)
A two time Grammy nominee who, over the course of over 15 years and five previous albums has written two # 1's and four US Top 10 hits, and had her songs recorded by the likes of Trisha Yearwood and James Morrison. She's also sung on albums by Ryan Adams, Shawn Colvin and Mary Chapin Carpenter.
Recorded in Nashville with her touring band, Wreck Your Wheels is a return to Kim's Americana roots.
With co writing contributions from, amongst others, Boo Hewerdine (The Bible) and Beth Rowley, Kim delves deep in to the quarters inhabited by the likes of Alison Krauss (In The Years To Come), Shelby Lynne (the exquisite For A While), and even Sheryl Crow in her less mainstream moments (When The Circus Comes To Town).
Female singer songwriters are, to coin a phrase, 'two a penny' at present. And the standard is pretty high (Nicky Swann and Mim Grey being two cases in point that have passed across the GRTR! editorial desk recently). But Wreck Your Wheels shows its contemporaries a clean pair of heels with some inspired songwriting. Anyone with a penchant for alt country / Americana is strongly advised to investigate.
