JANET ROBIN Everything Has Changed (2010)
Everything Has Changed is Janet Robin's 5th solo album and while the name may not be immediately familiar, her guitar work will have been heard by a wider audience though her being part of the touring bands of the likes of Lindsey Buckingham, Meredith Brooks and Air Supply. Michele Shocked has even been moved to describe Janet as ‘one of the best guitarists in the country'.
Everything Has Changed is essentially a singer songwriter album built around Janet's [mostly acoustic] guitar work. The words that immediately spring to mind are ‘quality adult orientated rock'. It opens with View From Above a track delivered in a style of Sheryl Crow circa Tuesday Night Music Club, while Bow & Arrow wouldn't be out of place on a Meredith Brooks set list. Even the cover of Dream Baby has a Sheryl Crow feel about it.
Produced by John Carter Cash at the Cash Cabin Studio's in Nashville, the production is excellent, with plenty of upfront acoustic guitar and Janet's warm and sultry vocals.
As a whole it's a laid back and relaxed set, with Janet demonstrating her fretwork prowess on the instrumental Rodrigo & Gabriela styled workout of CHR Number 137, the classical picking on the beautiful Everybody Falls In Love In Prague, and the excellent Clean Getaway.
Not overtly commercial and all the better for it. Well worth investigating for fans of the female singer songwriter Americana genre.
