DRIVE FASTER Frame Of Mind (2010)
Drive Faster - a female fronted Toronto based indie pop band - first emerged in 2009 when hard gigging Calgary based Supernal decided on a change of name, direction and location.
With lead vocalist Angela Saini trading her electric guitar in for a micro Korg synthesizer, the band (Tony Gare - guitar, Jeff Scale - bass, and Michael Holbrook - drums) and has come up with an uptempo sound that has a retro, but current feel. And combined with Saini's distinctive vocals, they could just be onto a winner.
Their debut album Frame Of Mind, may only run to eight tracks over 29 minutes, but like all pop gems, it's almost perfectly formed. The songs are instantly catchy, have infectious melodies and hooks and Saini's vocals - which fall somewhere between a young Madonna and Leah Andreone (who's 1996 release Veiled was one of the best angsty records of that decade) - are eminently radio friendly.
And while 'angst' may not be Drive Faster's modus operandi, Saini's vocals have a distinctive tone that means she, and Drive Faster are going to stand out from the crowd. They could just be the next big, bright, shiny thing.
