AXEL RUDI PELL The Crest Frontiers (2010)
This is Axel Rudi Pell's 13th studio album and he's come a long way musically since his Steeler days. Bar a pretty pointless intro piece and the average 'Too Late', this album is very strong song wise. Axel Rudi Pell gets a good chance to fly up and down the strings on the instrumental 'Noblesse Oblige' plus he's cranking away on the riffs on the classic hard rock tuens of 'Devil Zone' and 'Too Late'.
Pell is also known for his ballads, having released three ballads only albums to date and 'Glory Night' marks another hit. Johnny Gioeli is equally adept at screaming hard rock/metal as he is on the gentler moments like this one.
Strangely US vocalist Johnny Gioeli sounds more like a European vocalist on this album and far removed from his days singing in Hardline.
You'll either love or loathe the 'widdly' style of playing, as you would with Yngwie Malmsteen his nearest comparison but if you've enjoyed his albums in the past this album will be right up your street.
