WAYNE FONTANA & THE MINDBENDERS Best Of Universal (2008)
Rafa Benitez erupted with another furious rant this week when it was announced Liverpool FC would be buying this Very Best Of Collection.
'I want to talk on the facts. Wayne Rooney, Wayne Bridge, Wayne Fontana - all good players. But I have told him [Rick Parry]. No money for greatest hits cds.
OK. Is a fact. Wayne had hits in the sixties. But I am fed up. Every home game, the crowd. They no sing 'Rafa, Rafa, you're a genius'. No. They sing Gerry Bloody Marsden. Fact.
OK. I like sixties. Fact. I look at sleeve notes. Graham Gouldman. I like 10cc. I have Deadlock Haliday on my iPod. Fact. Carole Bayer Sayer. I have her LP when I a teenager in Madrid. She a hotty. (Rafa reaches into his track suit pants pocket and adjusts himself).
But I need a world class player. Another Stevie Gee or Fernando (I like Agnetha too). Fact. I hear you say 'Rafa, but Wayne Fontana is great'. But I say 'no'. Two top 10 hits not enough for the Premiership. Fact. I say no more mind bending.'
It was later announced that season ticket holders would get discounted tickets for the Solid Silver 60s tour. Wayne Fontana remains on the transfer list.
