TWIN ATLANTIC Vivarium (2009)
We've been quite impressed here at GRTR! by the last couple of singles released by hot Glasgow act Twin Atlantic.
The band date back to when front man Sam McTrusty and bassist Ross McNae met. Guitarist and cellist Barry McKenna joined after fulfilling roadie duites, and the line up was completed in 2007 when drummer Craig Neale joined the crew.
With a unique blend of melodic rock, metallic crunch, angular time changes, and Sam's distinctly Scottish vocals, the band have come up with a unique sound. Yes, it may have Biffy Clyro - who they've supported - overtones, but the quality of Vivarium suggests Twin Atlantic may soon usurp the masters of the genre.
As well as playing a 1000 seater sell out gig on home turf earlier this year, the band have been busy on the festival circuit and played four well received sets in Austin, Texas.
Vivarium may only be a 'mini album' - 8 tracks spanning 32 minutes, but in every way it's enormous - a monstrous sound, packed catchy hooks, great riffs, and impassioned vocals.
Head honcho Sam McTrusty is aiming for global status for Twin Atlantic. And while many aim beyond their reach, Twin Atlantic look likely to become a major force to be reckoned with.
