TALL STORIES Skyscraper Frontiers (2009)
The band released their debut album way back in 1991 and featured future Tyketto/Journey vocalist Steve Augeri. The album became a cult classic and now the band return less the drummer (they have various guest drummers filling in including ex-Rainbow/BOC drummer Bobby Rondinelli).
Like the debut album they cover many musical styles from blues to funk to classic rock although Led Zeppelin are a definate influence. After listening to songs like 'Tomorrow' or 'Pictures Of Summer' you could be mistaken for thinking you were listening to Robert Plant's late 80's solo albums. 'River Rise' is a storming song, lots of interesting musical arrangements not unlike the Tea Party in their prime. The album closes with the gospel meets rock of 'You Shall Be Free' which amply highlights the vocal talents of Steve Augeri.
A very enjoyable album that will appeal to fans of Led Zeppelin/Robert Plant's solo output as well Led Zep influenced bands like the Tea Party and Zebra. But fans of Augeri's other bands like Tyketto and Journey may be disappointed if they are expecting AOR/melodic rock.
