SUREFIRE Surefire Newkirk Records (2009)
Surefire is the debut album from US band Surefire, produced by the legendary Bob Ezrin (Aerosmith, KISS, Alice Cooper, Pink Floyd- the list is endless) this 10-track CD is perfect guitar driven pop/rock.
The first couple of tracks on the album ('The New Standard' and 'Lucy') are very Oasis like but still original sounding, as is the Beatles’ influenced 'She’s Golden'.
There are also a couple of tracks that have a slight Black Crowes groove to them ('Sea Song' and 'The Mountain'). 'Surefire' has not got a weak track on it and 'Hold On Top The Feeling' is without a doubt a hit single, and my favourite track on the album. Album closer 'By My Side' is a slower number with some epic qualities.
Singer/guitarist Ben Rice has captured some of the best musical influences of the last 40 years or so and has crafted them into his own sound, and this is not to be under estimated as this album shows.
This band are well worth checking out and with some major backing Surefire could be massive.
