FORGOTTEN SUNS Innergy ProgRock (2009)
Having released their debut album 'Fiction Edge' in 2000, this Portuguese band has created a steady reputation for themselves in the prog rock/metal field. They followed their debut with 2004s 'Snooze.'
Although their influences are largely seventies prog rock legends Rush, Marillion, Pink Floyd and Genesis, Forgotten Suns are much heavier, and less about concepts and symphonic sounds and more about heavy riffs and powerful beats.
There are some good riffs here and the structure of the songs, although sometimes basic, is interesting nonetheless. The vocals of Nio really suit this kind of band; he struggles with some of the higher notes but is competent enough.
'Racing The Hours' has touches of the usual trademarks of the genre but thankfully a central riff saves it from being a bog standard prog metal effort.
'News' and 'An Outer Body Experience' are powerfully played songs. Overall, 'Innergy' has plenty of energy and is a step in the right direction for Forgotten Suns.
