EVIL MASQUERADE Fade To Black Escape Music (2009)
Fourth album from this Danish theatrical metal band that kicks off in fine fashion with 'Lights Out'. If Rainbow ever played power metal, it could sound like this, with this one track featuring Tony Carey on some very lead keys. Some great melody and fast and furious guitar work to match.
From then on the four piece (plus some less obvious keyboards) are in power metal territory with a hint of an operatic edge. There are moments in 'In A Dungeon Close To Hell' where the guitar and bass with play in harmony before the guitar shoots off to a fantastic solo.
There are hints of Freedom Call/Rhapsody but with a rougher power edge. It is vocal/guitar led, the keyboards quieter and more intricate than on the opening track. Some vocal harmonies bolster the sound well too.
There’s some great trad metal here, such as in 'Different Shades Of Black'. It’s like the 90s never existed.
Highly energetic, highly enjoyable.
